One of the fun things about blogging is being asked to participate in events and group blogs. A few weeks ago I went to Halls for a fashion event, and in the next few weeks you'll read about my participation in a blogger cookie swap. Today I am happy to be part of a group of KC bloggers sharing information on different ways to give back this holiday season.
Organized by Jacquie of kcedeventures.com, she wanted to compile a list of ways to give back in our community, and tie into Giving Tuesday. For our round up, each blogger chose 1 organization. To learn about these Kansas City charities, and how you can make the season brighter for others, visit these great blogs:

I chose the Jewish Family Services (JFS) new Food Pantry. JFS answers 200 calls per month from families in crisis, and with the addition of the food pantry, can help families that struggle to make food stamps last an entire month. Additionally, low-income families that don’t qualify for food stamps sometimes skip meals. In the past, JFS hasn’t been able to do much about that problem, until now.
You do not need to be Jewish to use the pantry, but you do need to be working with JFS for assistance. The pantry has kosher and non-kosher items. If you, or someone you know, needs strictly kosher items, please have them contact the Yachad Food Pantry 913-649-4852.
In addition to donating food, paper goods and personal care items, here are a few other ways to help the food pantry:
- Financial contributions are always appreciated to help JFS meet all needs
- Help stock the shelves or staff the pantry
- Volunteer to help sort food donations, pick up donations from food drives and local grocery stores
- Make food deliveries to homebound clients
- Assist clients who come to the pantry
To become a food pantry recipient, volunteer, or donor, call JFS at 913-327-8250.
